South Oklahoma City has deep roots. Capitol Hill was platted in 1900, became its own city in 1905 and joined Oklahoma City in 1911. Its Commerce Street business district and Capitol Hill High School, opened in 1928, still anchor the neighborhood, which today is the heart of the city's Hispanic businesses and culture.

Farther south, neighborhoods spread out around Will Rogers World Airport, Earlywine Park and Lake Stanley Draper, all the way to the Moore border. Irish Green Lawn Care has treated lawns across this side of town for 25 years.

Older Neighborhoods, Newer Subdivisions

South OKC lawns come in two main types, and each needs something different:

  • Established yards near Capitol Hill and other older neighborhoods often have hard, packed soil and years of weed seed built up. Consistent pre-emergents and core aeration bring them back.

  • Newer homes toward the far south side usually start with fresh sod over thin builder's soil. Steady fertilization helps that turf root in and fill out.

How Our Program Works

Every South OKC customer gets our 6-Application Program, built around Oklahoma's seasons:

  • A barrier against crabgrass goes down before the soil warms in late winter

  • Broadleaf weeds get knocked out as the Bermuda greens up

  • Summer visits target anything that slips through

  • A fall barrier keeps henbit and other winter weeds out

Watering on Your Days

Oklahoma City keeps mandatory odd/even watering (Stage 1) in effect permanently. Check the last digit of your house number: even numbers water on the 2nd, 4th, 6th and so on, and odd numbers water on the 1st, 3rd, 5th and so on.

To see whether your lawn got enough water, push a long screwdriver into the soil. If it slides in about six inches without much effort, you're in good shape. If it stops short, water a little longer on your next day.
