Aerations are a very popular service in the lawn care world! Many claim that an aeration is the secret weapon to a beautiful lawn in Oklahoma. But what is an aeration? Why would you need one?
Aeration Season
The Purpose of an Aeration
At Irish Green Lawn Care, we prefer to use a machine called a core aerator to remove small plugs of soil so that sunlight, water, treatment applications, and nutrients can better reach your root system. A strong healthy root system = a strong healthy lawn that is better able to handle our Oklahoma stressors such as extreme heat, flooding, drought, insect infestations, etc.
You Should Opt for an Aeration if:
- If you have a problem with thatch (patches of thick grass), an aeration is the ideal fix.
- If your grass is thin, an aeration will help thicken it up.
- If you have compacted or sandy soil, an aeration will help break up that compaction/sand.
- If you have bermuda grass in sunny areas that is still not spreading over your sparse/bare patches after several applications and proper watering and mowing practices, an aeration will be useful in helping your roots absorb more .
Time and Prices for Aerations:
The most popular time to have an aeration done on your lawn is early Spring. We do aerations starting mid March through April. We recommend an aeration once a year. We often schedule them on windy days (plenty of those in Oklahoma). The cost of an aeration = double the cost of your lawn application. (Example $65 lawn app = $130 for aeration).
